朱銘 ｜單鞭下勢
朱銘創作此題材緣自於身體的孱弱，但從事雕刻需具備強健的體力，因此為了強身他接受了楊英風的提議，開始學練太極拳並逐漸迷上這門功夫，進而將太極的「套路」及「內在精神」轉化為藝術創作的元素。
一九八○至九○年代為朱銘全面發展創作的時期；此時，《太極》系列已逐步深化其語境及精神體悟。《太極》的初刻剛開始是從招式簡化而來，但慢慢地他手下的刀斧不再隨「形」而走，而是隨「意」行。
太極拱門
一九七六年，他在楊英風的力薦下於國立歷史博物館舉辦了首次的個展，展出〈同心協力〉等以台灣鄉土為題材且富含生命力的木雕作品，一鳴驚人，受到當時台灣藝文界的熱烈迴響，隨即聲名大噪，日後更被視為一九七○年代，台灣鄉土運動的重要象徵人物。
